LhArcA V1.02
Released 15-Jan-92
Written by Stefan Boberg 1990
Minor updates 14-Dec-91, 15-Jan-92
==========================================================================
This is a minor update from LhArcA 0.99, LhArcA 1.00 was never released
to the public, but I decided to release this version anyway.. This program
is now FREEWARE - meaning, use and abuse as you wish, I don't want any
money for it. However, I still hold the copyright, and no one may make any
profits out of this.
The program is pretty much self-explaining I hope, and this
`documentation file' just contains some info about the status of this
release. I do not support this program in any way, thus no updates will
be made after this release - I will continue development on my other
archivers however, so if you use archivers a lot, please consider
registering for LhA/LhI - they're cheap and well worth the money.
Source for this program will not be released because they are not quite
fit for public distribution (not very pretty or structured..).
==========================================================================
Notez bien: The compression and decompression routines used in
this program are *not* the same as used in my new archivers, LhA and LhI.
The routines of these two programs are *MUCH* faster, and they also offer
greater compression ratios. LhArcA does NOT handle the new -lh5-
compression, while LhI and LhA does. -lh5- is a new compression method
that is much more efficient than -lh1- (the one used in LhArc and LhArcA),
and is also faster. Everything in this program was essentially written in
1990, and I have not touched it since July 1990, except for today, when I
tidied the program up a bit and changed some minor things.
Even though the decompression routines of LhArcA are not the fastest
available, they are much faster than those of LZ (some tests I made right
now show that LhArcA is more than 50% faster than LZ on some files!).

Here follows a brief list of LhA and LhI's features, there's a lot to be
said about these programs (the manual for LhA alone is over 50 pages!!),
so these are just a few of the good points..
o Handles -lh1- and -lh5- compression, with the greatest speed currently
available on the Commodore Amiga. Decompression is more than twice as
fast as LZ 1.92 (more than 3 times the speed of LhArcA), and compression
is 2-4 times faster than LZ 1.92 (more than 6 times the speed of
LhArcA).
o LhA is reliable, compact, multitasking reentrant and pure. It offers a
multitude of options not available on any other archiver, like multi-
volume archives, archive repairing, splitting, joining, and more..
o LhI is an easy-to-use fully Intuition-driven archiver with the same
compression and decompression capabilities as LhA, it is 100% compatible
with LZ, LhArcA, LhA, LHA (MSDOS), and LhArc. It is also a very powerful
disk utility for moving, copying, formatting etc. It is not yet available
but under development.
o LhI has a very powerful ARexx server mode.
o LhI has all the commands and options of LhA, plus more.
o Both LhA and LhI has superior error-detection, handling and recovery not
offered by any other product for the Commodore-Amiga computer, the
author will continue updating and enhancing these products as long as he
gets support by the users (i.e. users register). It's my goal to produce
THE archivers for the Commodore-Amiga, and right now there are no rivals
that even comes close in terms of compression speed and performance.
Ok, that's all for now, hope you find LhArcA useful. If you have any
questions about the new LhI and LhA, feel free to contact me at any of the
